The Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine would like to remind you that Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00am on Sunday, November 7th.
This annual ritual involves a return to standard time. Clocks must be reset to one hour earlier, which means everyone gains one hour of extra sleep. We “fall back” to standard time until we once again “spring forward” into daylight saving time which begins the second Sunday in March.
That is, unless many advocates, including sleep medicine professionals, have their way and daylight saving time is abolished. These advocates, including the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, note that daylight saving time, plus the transition in the spring, leads to public health and safety concerns.
These are documented in the AASM’s position statement. For more information on this issue, visit the AASM. An additional perspective on supporting Standard Time can be listened to HERE.
